Upper Sandy Guard Station – SHPO Meeting
POSTED: FEBRUARY 19th, 2009

The State Advisory Committee on Historic Preservation will be meeting in Salem to review proposed nominations to the National Register of Historic Places. NFC has nominated the Upper Sandy Guard Station, built in 1935.  It will be considered at this public meeting.

In 2008, NFC received a $20,000 grant from the Kinsman Foundation to support NFC's attempts to preserve the Upper Sandy Guard Station. In late 2008, NFC hired a consultant, Jan Tomlinson, to draft the nomination paperwork. With barely enough time, Jan did all the research, talked to the right people, and even hiked to the cabin. She put together an amazing nomination that shows the Upper Sandy GS plays a big part in the history of the region. The Nomination is available here.  The 2/27/09 meeting agenda, with time and place, is available here.
