Leadership Retreat: Squaw Mountain Ranch in Estacada, OR
JANUARY 8th - 10th, 2009

You are invited to join the Board of Directors of NFC for 3 days and 2 nights in the forest outside of Estacada to learn about what NFC has done, and is planning on doing, to help our northwest forests. $35 per person (total) covers 3 days grounds fees and 2 nights. NFC will be providing food, but feel free to bring anything you want. (It may end up being a potluck!)

Plan on learning about NFC's Programs and Projects, NFC's Success stories, and how you can be a part of NFC's future! In between meetings, you will have time to use the wood-fired sauna, swim in the pond, relax in the group hot tub, or enjoy the quite solitude of the forest. $35 is a hard price to beat for 3 days/2 nights at a retreat in the forest! Dont miss out!

OPB Visits Bagby Hot Springs

OPB's award winning Oregon Field Guide visited Bagby Hot Springs this Summer to see what NFC has been doing. The episode is also available on the Oregon Field Guide website by clicking here. Bagby Hot Springs UPDATE

NFC has been working with the US Forest Service to repair the bathhouses, both with labor and with consulting. The bathhouses have had numerous years of vandalism and lack of maintenance. The repairs are significant. Some of the changes are against NFC's advice. Much of the work is to prepare for the possible management of the hot spring by a concessionaire soon.

Additionally nudity was banned in July. This is a big change so be prepared with a bathing suit, several people have already been ticketed. Many national nudist organizations are working with the US Forest Service to reach a compromise.

The historic 1913 cabin restoration has been moving forward. The ceiling and floor have been repaired, cleaned, and sealed. The exterior logs have been cleaned and re-treated. The new windows and shutters are built and will be installed before winter.

The Bagby Trail runs from the parking lot South 12.5 miles to Elk Lake. NFC maintains the entire lenth of the trail. NFC volunteers have removed over 50 trees from the trail and bushed 3 miles past the hot springs. The majority of the trail is in the wilderness where motorized equipment is banned, so all work is completed with hand tools, such as two-man crosscut saws. Volunteers really enjoy seeing the fruits of their hard work!

If you would like to help out, NFC work events are held every 3rd weekend of the month at Bagby Hot Springs (weather permitting). Hope to see you there!
